In need of inspiration?
Go wherever you want in your car. Some visits are essential: The Anne Frank House, wandering the Prinsengracht Canal, The Van Gogh Museum where some of the painter's masterpieces are exhibited, or the Rijksmuseum offering work focused on fine arts, folk art and the history of the country. It is here that you will find Rembrant's famous work, The Night Watch.
Here is another kind of museum to visit: the Heineken Experience, the world's famous Dutch brewery. Enjoy a cold beer on the rooftop before continuing your tour. Then why not get a little fresh air at Sarphatipark, right in the heart of Amsterdam-Zuid in the Pijp district? Or go play with your children in Beatrixpark. The view is amazing.
At this point you will be near Amsterdam's World Trade Center with its shops, restaurants and art exhibitions. Visit the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium built in 1928, and don't forget to see the famous Rosse Buurt, or Red Light District, one of the oldest and most beautiful areas of the city with architecture dating from the 14th century.
Near this neighborhood whose reputation proceeds it, is the Madame Tussaud wax museum, open since 1970. Be sure to see the National Monument before visiting the Royal Palace of Amsterdam that has crowned Dam Square since 1665.
A word of advice: As with most touristic cities, it is preferable to visit popular sites on weekdays to avoid the weekend crowds.
